A High-Performance Home On The Great Ocean Road

This renovation of a double-storey Besser-block and shiplap-clad home focused on enhancing aesthetics, functionality, and energy efficiency while embracing a modern, healthy home philosophy. Inside, the layout was opened to maximise natural light and improve flow. The kitchen was expanded with a new servery window to the rear balcony, and the living area was refreshed with Tasmanian Oak flooring and a custom balustrade around the internal staircase.

A major focus was improving thermal performance. Works included a full electrical rewire with a 3-phase power upgrade for future solar and EV charging, replacing original cedar windows with double-glazed aluminium framed windows, recladding timber-framed walls with high-performance insulation, wall wrap, and a ventilated cavity batten system. New Colorbond roofing iron and upgrading the roof insulation has added to the homes overall thermal performance.

Externally, both front and rear balconies were rebuilt and extended—the front now serving as a covered carport and the rear doubling in size to improve access to the pool area. The backyard was reimagined with tiered exposed aggregate concrete and new landscaping to suit coastal living.

The result is a modern, energy-efficient coastal home that blends its original character with contemporary comfort, performance, and long-term liveability.
